DSC Alexor Alarm Monitoring Options

The DSC Alexor is a wireless alarm control panel, the virtual “brain” of the security system. Because it is a distributed system, the alarm panel is not attached to the keypad physically, but rather wirelessly. Alexor is designed for flexible, secure installation locations within the home, as long as there is access to AC power, Alexor operates via up to four wire-free keypads (the WT5500). If the system changes its armed state or a wireless device is tampered with, ALEXOR will immediately be signaled and the appropriate transmission will instantly be transmitted to the monitoring station.

Now, that we understand a bit more about what the DSC Alexor system is made of, we want to provide you the end users with your options as far as getting signals from the DSC Alexor to a central alarm monitoring station such as GEOARM Security. Keep in mind the DSC Alexor is a discontinued security system and is no longer manufactured by DSC.

Phone/VOIP Alarm Monitoring

The first alarm monitoring option end users have in communicating alarm signals to the central station is Phone Line alarm monitoring or VOIP line alarm monitoring services. For either of these options to work end users must have a POTS or VOIP line directly wired into the DSC Alexor security system and have a dial tone to it. If you decide to go with VOIP or voice over internet option you should know there are some options that don't always work such as; Magic Jack, OOMA or Vonage. In some cases, if you have one of their more advanced options it may be worth a shot to see if our alarm monitoring station can receive signals from your system. Phone/VOIP alarm monitoring services with GEOARM Security start at just $8 per month no contract. Phone and VOIP alarm monitoring services are not the most recommended option for monitoring services because for any reason an intruder cuts your phone line from the exterior before entering your alarm siren will still sound but its communication signals will not reach the central alarm monitoring station.

Internet Broadband Communications

The second option end users have in transferring alarm signals from the DSC Alexor to a central alarm monitoring station would be via Internet broadband alarm monitoring services. In order to accomplish this type of internet monitoring services, you will have to have the part number TL265 internet broadband alarm communicator installed directly into the Alexor panel. With the DSC TL265 internet communicator, you will not have any ability to remotely control your security system from smart devices. or receive text messages. DSC internet alarm monitoring services with GEOARM are the lowest in the country at only $10 per month no contract. Again, internet alarm monitoring is not the most recommend alarm monitoring option for the Alexor because if an intruder externally cut your internet line or killed power to your house your alarm system would still sound but, would not send alarm signals to the central station unless you have your external internet lines buried and your wireless router hooked up to some sort of battery backup device. The TL265 communicator will require end users to run a cat5 cable from their wireless internet router to the communicator.

Wi-FI Alarm Monitoring Option

The third option for alarm monitoring services with the DSC Alexor wireless security system would be via IPdataTel Wi-FI alarm monitoring services. In order to accomplish Wi-FI alarm monitoring services with the Alexor end-users must have a BAT-WIFI communicator installed directly into the Alexor panel. The BAT-WIFI is not a DSC product and is not going to be installed internally to the panel but rather externally next to the main Alexor control panel. The advantage of using a BAT-WIFI over the TL265 broadband communicator is that end users will not have to run a cat5 cable from their router to the control panel. The BAT-WIFI once installed to the Alexor will be able to wireless send its signals to the router which makes for a much easier installation. Keep in mind this is not the most recommend alarm monitoring option for the Alexor because if an intruder externally cut your internet line or killed power to your house your alarm system would still sound but, would not send alarm signals to the central station UNLESS you have your external internet lines buried and your wireless router hooked up to some sort of battery backup device. With the BAT-WIFI consumers will not have any option for remote control of their security system via any smartphone application.

Cellular Alarm Monitoring Option

The fourth option end users will have to communicate their DSC Alexor alarm signals to a central alarm monitoring station would be via cellular alarm monitoring services. Since the DSC Alexor is a discontinued product by DSC they never made an internal compatible 3g cellular communicator option for the panel. But, have no fear GEOARM prides itself on staying up to date with the latest technology so there is still a few cellular communicator option's for Alexor without having to replace the panel. The Telguard Tg-1 express universal cellular communicator is a wonderful option it is very easy for end-users to install into their Alexor system. Telguard usually has numerous options as far as what cellular provider you can select. The purpose of this is to make sure you go with the cellular provider that gives you the best cellular signal strength in your area. If you decide to go with a Telguard option make sure you select the Telguard cellular alarm monitoring option. One of the biggest benefits of going with a Telguard TG-1 express besides it being very easy to install is that with this communicator you can have interactive alarm monitoring services via Telguard Home Control. If you decide to go this route keep in mind the TG-1 express communicator will have to be wired and installed in a different way. If you have any questions you can contact GEOARM Security and as long as you are going to be a monitored client of ours our tech's can assist you with this process. On a final note for the cellular option with the Alexor system end users can decide to go with a DSC 3G4000 cellular communicator if they prefer to keep everything DSC. With this option, you will want to make sure you have the DSC 3G4000, backup battery and power transformer for it to work correctly. This option will not have any option for end users to remotely control their system or receive text messages. If you decide to go with this option make sure you select the DSC cellular alarm monitoring service. Cellular alarm monitoring with the DSC Alexor system is a recommended option for alarm monitoring services. The reason why is because of these options even if an intruder cuts your meter box kills power, cuts phone line or cuts your internet line will not matter. This option is powered off of your alarm systems backup battery so it still can communicate in any of these events.

Dual-Path Alarm Monitoring Services

If you have a DSC Alexor and are looking for dual-path alarm monitoring services meaning you want two modes of communication back to the central alarm monitoring station we have a good recommendation for you the ipDATATEL BAT-CDMA-WIFI universal dual-path alarm communicator. The BAT-CDMA-WIFI uses the CDMA network which works with the Verizon cellular towers. So before you purchase this device make sure you have decent Verizon cellular signal in your area. The BAT-CDMA-WIFI communicator once installed into your Alexor panel will allow your alarm panel to communicate with WI-FI primarily and if that is not available will automatically send using the CDMA network. This option is a good option but, will not offer any interactive monitoring options. This means that end users will not have any way to remotely arm/disarm their system or receive text notifications to their smart devices. If you decide to go with this option make sure you signup for the ipDATATEL Dual-Path alarm monitoring service.

Upgrade your DSC Alexor to a Newer Alarm System

The final option end-users have in communicating alarm signals to a central alarm monitoring station would be by upgrading your DSC Alexor to a newer alarm control panel that supports interactive alarm monitoring and remote access to the panel for tech support and troubleshooting.

The DSC
SCW457AVZNT which is an Alarm.com compatible Impassa security system. Every wireless sensor or device you currently have on your Alexor security system will be compatible with this option including wireless sirens and keypads. The benefit of upgrading to the Alarm.com DSC Impassa version is that end users will be able to have interactive alarm monitoring & automation services. The SCW457AVZNT has a built-in Alarm.com cellular communicator and Z-Wave home automation module. In addition to end users having full access to Alarm.com interactive services, they will also benefit because GEOARM Security will be able to remotely access their control panels programming to assist with troubleshooting and tech support. This makes perfect for end users looking for the best DIY alarm monitoring services.

The Second option end users have when it comes to upgrading their DSC Alexor security system is to upgrade to the DSC Touch. The DSC touch will offer all of the same benefits as the DSC Alarm.com Impassa but, won't be able to work with your DSC Alexor wireless keypads or wireless sirens. The reason why is because the DSC Touch doesn't have the bidirectional receiver needed to communicate with these devices. If you have either of these devices and you are set on keeping them than the DSC SCW457VZNT is a better option for you. The DSC touch is a nice upgrade because it comes with both a Celluar and Wi-FI alarm communicator for easy Dual-Path Alarm.com alarm monitoring services.

The third option consumers have when trying to upgrade their DSC Alexor wireless security system is to purchase a Resolution Products RE524X wireless to
wireless translator. This device will allow you to take your current DSC wireless devices and translate them into another security manufactures frequency such as Honeywell, Qolsys, Interlogix, 2GIG and more. Keep in mind again this device will not allow for bi-directional devices such as wireless keypads or wireless sirens.
